About the Community Assets Builders Association (CABA)
At the Community Assets Builders Association (CABA), we believe every community holds the power to create a brighter, more resilient future. As a mission-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are dedicated to identifying and activating local assets to spark sustainable progress and meaningful change. With integrity and purpose at our core, we empower communities to thrive.
Founded in 2000 by Yaw (Robert) Mintah — an inspiring educator and lifelong advocate for the underserved — CABA was born from a vision of educational empowerment. During his years with City Colleges of Chicago, Mr. Mintah helped countless students transform their lives by preparing for the GED exam. Determined to expand his mission, he opened CABA’s first center in Chicago’s Englewood community, extending beyond education to deliver vital social services and opportunities for growth.
For nearly two decades, CABA has stood shoulder to shoulder with communities, adapting and responding to their evolving needs. In 2017, as Mr. Mintah prepared for retirement, he and the board envisioned a bold new chapter for CABA, embracing fresh leadership and a renewed commitment to impact, sustainability, and hope for generations to come.
We believe all communities can thrive and are inherently sustainable
when they have equitable access to resources.
